Outdoor Secrets create innovative, functional outdoor spaces, designed to inspire and enrich the lives of clients today and into the future.

Established in 2010 by husband and wife team Nathan and Laurene Bisshop, Outdoor Secrets is at the forefront of residential landscape design and construction. With over 20 years experience in the building and landscaping industry, Nathan and the team have an innate ability to not only bring simple concepts to life, but to ingeniously create destinations that surpass client’s dreams.

Ensuring the design and construction team flawlessly deliver projects on time, within budget and to the highest standard possible is Co-Owner and Managing Director, Laurene Bisshop. Renowned for her phenomenal aptitude in business, marketing and management, Laurene supports her team in creating visionary designs that are timeless, sustainable, innovative and functional. Together with Nathan, the formidable Management team consistently push boundaries in design and construction, ensuring clients not only see their vision come to life, but that the process of creating it has been as stress free and seamless as possible.

1. What’s your favourite tree or plant? Dragon Tree or Baobab Tree.
2. What’s the best project or team you’ve been a part of? Why? Channel Nine project for Brett and his wonderful family. Seeing the impact of the community coming together for one great cause was phenomenal!
3. What’s your favourite landscape design style? Why? Sharp Cacti/succulent gardens – the amazing colours, shapes and slow growing
4. Where in the world inspires your creativity? Singapore gardens by the bay, outback Australia and also coastal Australia.
5. Why do you love your job? I get to change people’s lives and help create functional and aesthetically pleasing spaces for families to make memories together.
6. What’s the proudest moment in your life? Having my two beautiful children.
7. What’s the biggest risk you’ve ever taken? Starting my own business.
8. What’s a local or global issue/cause you’re passionate about + contribute to? Sick children.
9. What’s the best lesson you’ve learnt from your biggest failure? God and family are worth more than gold.
10. What’s your purpose in life? To create a legacy for my children and future generations whilst trying to help as many people as possible here on earth.

1. What’s your favourite tree or plant? French Lavender.
2. What’s the best project or team you’ve been a part of? Why? ‘Brett’s Backyard Rescue’ for A Current Affair. Loved it because of the challenge to design, build and coordinate so many different trades in a short space of time. Worked crazy hours but the team morale was amazing and we met so many wonderful people along the way, not to mention being able to create a beautiful landscape for a very deserving family!
3. What’s your favourite landscape design style? Why? French Provincial Garden – I love the straight lines and symmetry as well as the planting scheme which incorporates beautiful hedging.
4. Where in the world inspires your creativity? Australian beaches, being around water is incredibly relaxing and inspiring.
5. Why do you love your job? Working behind the scenes to ensure that everyone is able to perform their roles to the best of their ability. I also love being involved in sales and marketing to engage people in what we do and why we do it.
6. What’s the proudest moment in your life? My two beautiful children.
7. What’s the biggest risk you’ve ever taken? Starting a business with my husband (Nathan). It could either make or break us but we work well as a team and support each other. It works because we put our family first and his strengths are my weaknesses and vice versa.
8. What’s a local or global issue/cause you’re passionate about + contribute to? Every year as a business we’re involved in Movember. We also give to missions which provide support to local farmers as well as different countries around the world, assisting in building wells, schools and supporting children with disabilities.
9. What’s the best lesson you’ve learnt from your biggest failure? No matter what life throws at you if you have love in your life you have everything. Material things mean nothing and they can go as quickly as they come.
10. What’s your purpose in life? To make a difference in the lives of as many people as possible and to leave a legacy for my children.

1. What’s your favourite tree or plant? Cherry Blossom and Waterhousia floribunda.
2. What’s the best project or team you’ve been a part of? Why? Burpengary AFL Precinct and associated team. This was a large project with many in depth and varying aspects involved in relation to scope, and the teamwork required to bring the project together. A lot was learnt and was a great team to work with made up of multiple stakeholders, subcontractors, suppliers and fellow staff members.
3. What’s your favourite landscape design style? Why? Japanese style, for the way it incorporates the use of multiple layered planting elements including the use of rocks and gravel and water. It almost gives the feeling of looking over an entire land but in a confined space.
4. Where in the world inspires your creativity? The outdoors in general. Seeing spaces and imagining what you could create based on a brief, or if no brief provided then putting the imagination to work.
5. Why do you love your job? The feeling you get when you deliver to a client the outdoor space that they have always wanted, and knowing that it is going to provide that client and their family and friends years of enjoyment and a space they will create life long memories in.
6. What’s the proudest moment in your life? The birth of my daughter.
7. What’s the biggest risk you’ve ever taken? None that weren’t calculated to a degree. Did the risk pay off?? Not always, but no risk – no reward.
8. What’s a local or global issue/cause you’re passionate about + contribute to? Cancer research, particularly in young people, and Surf Life Saving Foundation.
9. What’s the best lesson you’ve learnt from your biggest failure? In business – get it in writing! Ensure all bases are covered, not to mention effective communication.
10. What’s your purpose in life? To be happy. To spend time with my wife and daughter and to raise my daughter to be the best person she can be.

1. What’s your favourite tree or plant? Japanese Maple.
2. What’s the best project or team you’ve been a part of? Why? My current landscape team; We work together to produce high quality, inspiring, sustainable, enjoyable and practical spaces.
3. What’s your favourite landscape design style? Why? I don’t have a favourite, but if I had to choose, it would be Scandinavian Landscape and Architecture – The amalgamation of the natural and built environment.
4. Where in the world inspires your creativity? Everywhere from dense to rural, beach to bush. All of my past experiences have shaped the way I view the world today.
5. Why do you love your job? No day is exactly the same. We design spaces tailored to suit people, place and program that differentiate every time.
6. What’s the proudest moment in your life? Looking after myself after leaving home.
7. What’s the biggest risk you’ve ever taken? Not taking risks!
8. What’s a local or global issue/cause you’re passionate about + contribute to? The Environmental, Social, and Economic benefits of Landscape Architecture and the role it plays in people’s quality of life.
9. What’s the best lesson you’ve learnt from your biggest failure? Take risks!

2. What’s the best project or team you’ve been a part of? Why? Mt Gravatt – fun working with the existing irregular pool shape and level changes.
3. What’s your favourite landscape design style? Why? French – the symmetry and plants create a formal and magical oasis.
4. Where in the world inspires your creativity? Morocco & Greece.
5. Why do you love your job? Creating a different oasis/space for each client’s varied needs/style.

4. Where in the world inspires your creativity? The European countryside.
5. Why do you love your job? It’s very rewarding being involved in something from concept to completion; it’s a great hands-on environment.
6. What’s the proudest moment in your life? Graduating after four years at an American College as the Student Body President.
7. What’s the biggest risk you’ve ever taken? Giving up a teaching job in the US to return to Australia.
8. What’s a local or global issue/cause you’re passionate about + contribute to? As cities expand, it becomes more important to build and nurture beautiful greenspaces.

2. What’s the best project or team you’ve been a part of? Why? A project at Thornlands was my favourite because it had a lot really cool features packed into a relatively small area.
3. What’s your favourite landscape design style? Why? I like designs that include curved garden edges, lots of rocks and grassy plants.
4. Where in the world inspires your creativity? The granite belt in Australia.
5. Why do you love your job? Because I get to be involved in turning an unattractive and unusable area into an attractive and functional space.

7. What’s the biggest risk you’ve ever taken?
8. What’s a local or global issue/cause you’re passionate about + contribute to? I am involved in the planting and maintaining of over 1000 trees on our property. These trees are part of a program to prevent salt washing out of the soil and into the valley.
